Good to know on Apple TV
The app speaks 31 languages and follows the language of your Apple TV. Your language also decides which categories come first in your lists, so a Dutch Apple TV puts Dutch channels up front.
Playback covers .mkv, HEVC and 4K, not only the formats tvOS handles on its own. How smoothly 4K runs depends on your network and on the stream your provider delivers, not on the app alone.
You can keep several playlists side by side, each with its own library, so switching between two providers does not mean loading everything again.
Troubleshooting
The code on the TV has expired
The short code lives ten minutes and then the app asks for a new one. Open the playlist screen again, and a fresh code with a fresh QR code appears.
The Apple TV says the app is not available
Check tvOS first: the app needs 16.4 or newer, and an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K. Older boxes cannot install apps from the App Store at all.
Subtitles are too small, or in the wrong language
Open the player, pick the subtitle track you want and set the subtitle size there. The audio track is selectable in the same place. If subtitles drift out of sync on one channel, subtitles out of sync explains why that happens and what helps.

How it works

Check your Apple TV
You need an Apple TV 4K (any generation) or an Apple TV HD with tvOS 16.4 or newer. Check it under Settings, General, About, and update tvOS first if it is older. Older Apple TV boxes cannot install apps at all.

Install from the App Store
Open the App Store on your Apple TV, search for IPTV Player One and choose Get. Apple TV allows apps from the App Store only, so there is nothing to enable and nothing to sideload. You can also open the App Store listing on your iPhone or Mac; it is the same listing as the Mac app.

Have your playlist details ready
IPTV Player One is a player only: it contains no channels, content or subscriptions, so you bring your own playlist from a legal source. That is either an M3U link or an Xtream Codes login with a server address, a username and a password. Not sure which one you have? Read M3U vs Xtream Codes.

Add the playlist from your phone
Open the app on the Apple TV. It shows a short code with a QR code. Open iptvplayerone.com/playlist on your phone, enter that code, and fill in your M3U link or your Xtream Codes login there. The Apple TV picks it up and starts loading your channels, movies and series. Prefer to type on the TV? The manual option stays next to it.

Start watching
Live TV is sorted by group and by country, and search covers your whole playlist. Movies and series remember where you stopped. Your free 14-day trial starts the first time you play something, not when you install, and it needs no account and no payment details.

Set it up the way you watch
Arrange the home screen: keep the rows you use, hide the rest. Pick your audio track and subtitle track in the player and set the subtitle size so it reads from the couch. Put groups behind a PIN with the parental lock if children use the same television.

Subscribe when the trial ends
To keep watching, subscribe in the app through the App Store: $1.49 a month or $5.99 a year, renewing until you cancel in your Apple Account. One subscription covers your Apple TV and your Mac on the same Apple Account. There is no device code to enter and no activation page: the App Store unlocks the app through your account.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Mac or an iPhone to install it?
No. You install it from the App Store on the Apple TV itself. A phone is handy for one step only: filling in your playlist details, so you do not have to type them with the remote.
Why can I not type my playlist on the TV?
You can, and the option is right there. It is just slow: the tvOS keyboard is a row of letters you swipe through with your thumb, and an Xtream server address with a username and a password is a lot of swiping. The short code on your phone is the same route Netflix and YouTube use.
Is the app free?
The app and the 14-day trial are free, with no account and no payment details. After the trial you subscribe through the App Store, $1.49 a month or $5.99 a year, and that subscription also covers the Mac app on the same Apple Account. There is no lifetime option in the App Store.
Does the Apple TV app cast, or use AirPlay?
No, and it does not need to. On the Apple TV the app plays on the television itself. Casting and AirPlay are for the other apps: from Windows, the Mac download or an Android phone you send a stream to a Chromecast, a Google TV or an Android TV.
My channels do not load. What now?
Copy the playlist link or the login details exactly as your provider sent them, with no extra spaces. If an M3U link containing get.php will not load, some providers block that type of direct download: try the Xtream Codes option with the same server address, username and password. Can I use the same subscription on my iPhone?
Once the iPhone and iPad app is in the App Store, yes: it is the same app record, so one subscription covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV on one Apple Account. That app has been submitted and follows when Apple approves it. Until then iPhone and iPad run as a public beta on TestFlight.
